How to seal air dry marblex clay to strengthen and prevent cracking and breaking?
Looking for the best product to apply to an air dried model using regular white/grey air dry clay you can buy at Michaels and ACMoore. The best sealer or something to put on this clay and also is there a better more strong less shrinking clay as cheap as the stuff you can get at these crafts stores ?
The manufacturer recommends a product called All Purpose Sealer (http://www.amaco.com/prod-amaco-all-purpose-sealer-344.html). Another clay supplier recommends a product called Rub 'n Buff that can produce a metallic sheen

Perhaps a self-polymerizing substance like an oil finish for woods would also do well. It would penetrate the clay and then harden in place, stabilizing the clay (though this takes some time). An oil finish could be sprayed or painted on as desired.
Anything that forms a coating, like an acrylic finish, will not work because it will cover only the surface and will eventually flake off.
There is no such thing as a non-shrinking clay. The shrinking property is due to the electrochemical structure of the clay and the way it adsorbs water to the surface of the clay platelets. Clay bodies that contain a large fraction of non-clay materials, such as a sculptor's clay, will shrink less.
