Mustang seats- Im looking to replace the seat covers in my 68 mustang coupe but cant find a color to match?
what is currently in there...i havent had the car long and when i bought it the guy said it had
" maroon" interior. However the data plate on the door says the car has " dark red crinkle vinyl and dark red kiwi vinyl. Well the middle/inserts of the seats have the kiwi pattern/texture and are dark red/maroon. However the other color on the the seats isnt dark red at all but is a rust/copper color. I have done research and found that maroon was not a color offered in 68. As far as in can tell the car still has the original interior which is all a dark red/maroon color except for the seats ( exculding the inserts on the seats which match the rest of the interior). Is it possible that the entire seat was infact dark red but faded to this rust color except for the middle inserts? seems unlikely to me but im all confused as to what i have...can anyone help me clear things up?
i have an old mustang book that shows a picture of the color and texture of the vinyl. 2d and 6d are red vinyl and the seat and the insert are the same color but a little different texture. 7d and 5d are red knit vinyl and are the same color as red vinyl but a little different in texture [than the red 2d and 6d respectively]. i don't think that the difference in texture would cause the color to change as the vinyl and dye was probably the same material. however ford had sub contractors that furnished the interiors and the materials very well could be different causing the fade situation. there is no "maroon" color in my book and no "kiwi" or "crinkle" description. maybe you will get some better answers on this matter.
