can you use craft acrylic paint in a airbrush?
My husband found an old airbrush and gave it to me. The kind you use the glass bottles. I was wondering if you can use craft acrylic paints in it?
The general rule of thumb is, you want to reduce your paint down to about the same consistency as milk. The airbrush you're describing is a siphon feed, so you may want to go even a little thinner. You could just use water, but craft acrylics are generally watered down a bit anyway, so I'd try to go with something else. Too much water will cause problems, because water doesn't atomize very well. They actually make airbrush mediums for mixing with acrylic paint. If you have a good art supply near by, they'll most likely carry it. You can also reduce acrylics with denatured alcohol. You can pick it up at any hardware store. And last but not least. Old school trick number 4,371. Drum roll please. Windex. Yep , you heard me correctly. Good old fashion window cleaner. Of course you'll want the clear stuff, but it will reduce acrylic paint, and it atomizes just fine. Neat huh?

Oh! One more thing. The proper working pressure for a siphon feed gun is usually somewhere between 35 and 45 psi.
