do alligator gar fish bite?
I live in south Louisiana and my yard flooded from tropical storm lee and there is an alligator gar fish swimming around in my yard...... and we have to walk through the water to get to our cars so im just wondering if is dangerous
YES!! Absolutely, they can be dangerous, They are aggressive meat-eaters, and as with any wild animal, if they are threatened and or hungry, they are dangerous.

***** Keep in mind, people are not part of their diet, and they have been around as long as sharks. That makes the % of attacks very minimal and probably due to special circunstances or mistaken identity- --- With this information, it most likely adds to your fear or concern, BUT!!!!

>>>> There is a short clip of him jumping in water wearing mask & snorkle>> NOT ONE GAR SHOWED ANY AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR TOWARDS HIM, he even reached out & touched one. So that should ease your concerns a little (but let me point out, the fact that these fish ALSO did not really show any fear of him either, and just as with most preditors- they likely choose to attack prey that consists with their size only to avoid a fight that could injure themselves-anything related to size however is forgotten when it comes to an injured possible prey, or if prey is limited and they are starving.
>> I hope by now this flooding has gone down, or at least if you are forced to cross such water, you have a floating device. But, obviously these fish are living closely to your home, possibly in water where you should at least have awareness of their threat or lack of to you and your family.
