How can I remove vinyl tile black adhesive from hardwood floors?

I pulled up the tiles but there is still the black adhesive on the hardwood floor. I don't want to ruin the hardwood floors. Do I sand off the adhesive or use some sort of adhesive remover ( what kind)?? Thanks

You can try the old stand-bys such as goo gone or WD40 but I think that in the end you're probably going to need to sand and refinish the floor. I never have been able to understand why people mess up nice wood by painting or tileing over it.
